Pay Applications
Understanding a negative amount due on a pay application
Video walkthrough for this article has not been recorded yet — the written steps above are the full guide in the meantime.
If you ever see a pay application where the amount due comes out negative, that's not a bug — it's Jig correctly telling you a credit is owed back to the owner, most often because a retainage rate changed after an earlier application was already certified. Jig never hides this by clamping the number to zero.
Two safeguards go with it:
- If you change a project's retainage rate after any application has been certified, Jig shows you the old rate, the new rate, and exactly how much the current amount due will move — and asks you to confirm before it applies.
- If a deductive change order would drop a cost line below what's already been billed against it, Jig flags that the same way, before it lets the change through.
